Christian Poetry: "Young Oak Tree"
Like trees, new Christians must have deep roots
This is an original poem that analogizes the new Christian to a young oak tree. It speaks of the importance of ensuring those coming to Christ are discipled and have a strong foundation (roots), for when trials and temptations come (the four winds), they might not be able to stand. My poem is also a reminder that every new creation in Christ takes on a fresh identity (a strong and tall oak), and they should always remember who they are in Him and what they have the potential to be.
Bless the souls that planted you in this ground
And watered you from your early start
But I wish they would have dug a hole down
Instead of covering soil over your heart
For your roots needed to be deeper and spread out wide and far
For you are an oak, strong and tall; remember who you are
So when I found you fallen over
From the force of the four winds
I started digging by the water's edge
So that you could stand again
And though now your leaves hang limp and sad
If you will soak up this life-giving water
You will branch out strong and high
A welcoming shade for the sons and daughters
And as your roots reach down deeper and spread out wide and far
You will look more like an oak; remember who you are
So when I found you fallen over
From the force of the four winds
I started digging by the water's edge
So that you could stand again
