Christian Poetry: "Sonflower (Reach for You)"

I wrote the following poem in contemplating how sunflowers stretch toward the light and how we similarly can turn our faces toward THE light of the world, Jesus Christ:

I am Your Sonflower

Stretching toward Your rays of life

In this world I've been planted

O how You draw me to You

You pull me up higher

Higher toward the friendly light

To point up to the heavens

This is what I'm meant to do

And I pray the world will stop and see

And lift their gaze in imitation of me

And reach for You

I am Your Sonflower

Stretching toward my source of life

For the core of who I am

Emanates from You, from You

You make me stand stronger

Stronger as I soak in Your light

Reflecting the warm glow

You shine down each day anew

And I pray the world will stop and see

And lift their gaze in imitation of me

And reach for You
