Forgiveness is a beautiful, wonderful miracle

I wrote this poem to put into words how God's forgiveness is a mind-boggling, beautiful miracle. For who would die for their enemy's crimes? We were the guilty ones, "but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8, ESV).

How beautiful, how wonderful

The miracle of forgiveness

To recline in the assurance

That your dark stains have been erased

To feel all the weights lifting off

And a holy peace encompass

Your frightened soul that's just needing

Release from the grip of guilt's chains

How beautiful, how wonderful, the miracle

How beautiful, how wonderful

The miracle of forgiveness

To receive God's unleashed favor

Engulfing you like a cloud

To know love is ever constant

Even when we don't return it

And our lives are clanging symbols

That, above our words, speak much too loud

How beautiful, how wonderful, the miracle

How beautiful, how wonderful

The miracle of forgiveness

To surrender life to the Hand

That paints your soul a brighter hue

To close your tired, heavy eyes

And absorb this night's stillness

With the knowing that tomorrow

God's mercies will be new
