Christian Poetry: 'Calling Out'
We wonder if God hears our cry, but do we hear His?
I put a bit of a twist on this lyric as I present hypothetical remarks from the Lord. Sometimes we may question whether God hears our cry, but what if God is conversely questioning whether we hear His? What if He is calling out to us, wanting to fellowship with us, and all we do is present our list of wants as if communicating with Santa Claus and then say "amen"? I pray that this composition gives us food for thought about the need to listen and not only speak.
I know sometimes you wonder
If your cry reaches Me at all
You question if my ears listen
To your heart's desperation call
Well, let me assure you now
That every time I do
But did you know sometimes I ask
The same question about you?
Night and day
I'm calling out
Calling out to you
Hoping that you too will grant what I ask
But you make your requests and run off so fast
Oh, when will my voice break through at last
I'm calling out
Calling out to you
I'd like to share My secrets
I'd like to tell you of My dreams
How I'd love to reveal to you
Some extraordinary things
I'm making waves of glory
How I want you to ride that wave
How can you know where I'm going
If you cannot hear what I say?
Night and day
I'm calling out
Calling out to you
Hoping that you too will grant what I ask
But you make your requests and run off so fast
Oh, when will my voice break through at last
I'm calling out
Calling out to you
