Choice

the freedom to choose is ours

an ill wind blew across

the darkened landscape of my life

the gloom of probable turmoil and pain

another clash on the horizon of my spirit

there is no endurance unless you are scared

fearful of failure or afraid of success

the destination is still the same

mired in the muck of our existence

turmoil and pain is a razor-edged precipice

life-sucking agony with a plummet to death

or a chance to grow and change is the other

there is the freedom to choose

struggle requires courage to prevail

life and its bloodshed make no difference

opportunity half-full breeds confidence

a spiral half-empty births doubt and fear

fear of facing oneself naked

looking headlong into the mirror of the soul

unveiling emotional scars of existence

all cutting deep within our wounded spirit

growth is painful and nakedness is terrifying

the choice to change is freedom

endurance to withstand fear and pain

a battle to conquer a war to be won
