chocolate cherry lattes

The scent of chocolate cherry lattes makes me cry

I haven’t flown home in a year

Been wondering why I love my father enough

to search for him in every man I love

but not enough to call

Fathers day is sunday

the cherry tree is dying and my cell phone is heavy

I know his heart is real but I can’t remember

the last time I saw it stretched out to someone

not on their knees

I won’t call on my knees but

I will drink a chocolate cherry latte and I will cry

stare at my phone and recite my first address

pray the way he taught me like

dear abba
