We’re in a club of our own

We’re in a club of our own.

Some of us date, some of us don’t bother.

Half of us don’t own our own properties,

The other half bought theirs with the help

Of Mummy and Daddy.

Not quite old enough for retirement age

But already dreaming of a soft life -

Let’s just buy a piece of acreage and

Breed dogs or grow our own herbs.

The new tech in shops is growing

More and more foreign.

“We’re becoming the Aunties!”

“No, we ARE the Aunties!”

The friends with kids can’t make these

Catch ups. They’re too busy. Always,

Always too busy.

Dual income households

Lacking in time.

I can’t even ask them, “How are you?”

Because there’s nothing more to say

Than, “All good, just really busy.”

Instagram stories of their kids. Photos of

Birthday cakes and parties.

Whilst the childless ones in our little club

We keep going to eat, and watch movies,

And taking photos - occasionally discussing

Current events and politics

And that’s about it.

Writing sporadically... I tried some challenges but never won anything. Sometimes my poetry helps me process whatever has been going on... sometimes it is pure fiction. Sometimes I like to write about pop culture and astrology.
