Riding in the car with my uncle Juel
He really was a Jewel
Waving his hand over the steering wheel
a blue light would appear for real!
Duck when going under a bridge, he said
or we were going to bump our head!
~
The GaGa man was coming for us
when out after dark, and Gus
made that clear without much fuss,
he said Gaga would turn us to dust.
~
Wish upon a falling star at night
that wish would come true, that's right!
If you don't blow out all your candles, the lit
ones are the number of boyfriends you get.
~
Santa Claus comes down the chimney top
to bring gifts to everyone, including pop.
~
Leave your tooth under your pillow honey,
and the tooth fairy will leave you money!
~
The Easter bunny hides eggs, money, and candy
while we sleep. Isn't he just a dandy?
~
Nanaboozhoo our Ojibwe trickster does magic too.
Those stories are told only with snow on the ground for you.
Iktomi is the Dakota trickster, known to many as a spider
I only know a couple of Dakota stories I can tell when drinking cider.
~
Fairy tales, tales of the little people, and many other stories of magic
I was privileged to enjoy them as a young one.
Most were not of the scary type but some were tragic.
Thank you for reading and now I am done!
