Dear child

without a home

"what's your name? "

maybe it's the only thing they

left you with

that you got to keep

when you were born

allowed to take your first breath

a miracle in itself

God's creation

searching faces

for a "I'm here to bring you home"

desperately appealing

to prospective hearts

for a place to park

their teddy bear

nail polish

coloring books

notebooks

homework

hopes

dreams

identity

their own permanent bed

not a loaner

in a facility

so many people don't want kids

that aren't biologically theirs

as if bloodline and pedigree

are preferred

what an act of selflessness

to give a homeless child a home

and raise them as not

somebody else's bloodlines

but your newly gotten

flesh and blood

a choice

not born into, but brought into

with intention

acceptance and love

" what's your favorite color?"

" that's awesome, but 'a family'

isn't a color"

but maybe it is a color

after all

maybe it's sunrises and sunsets

rainbows and fluffy clouds

pink flowers and blue skies

a sparkly backpack and a bedroom

home cooked meals and a lunchbox

"how was school today, what did you learn?"

" I got you a Water Pik and toothpaste that changes color just for fun!"

" wanna learn how to use the washer?"

" who's ready to get adopted?"

" time for bed, let's pray."

Author's note: the fast food restaurant, Wendy's, supports adoption through the Dave Thomas Foundation. Dave Thomas was adopted and Wendy is his daughter.

Michael and Nicki Carter are friends of mine who live nearby me in Florida and they now have 12 kids, several of them adopted, and they say they may not be done yet- by God's design. They are such an inspiration! ❀️

In Florida, there is an age minimum of 21 years old but no maximum age to adopt a child. It's done on a case-by-case basis, making it possible for people, with the heart to provide a child with a home, to make it happen. ❀️

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.”Psalms‬ ‭68‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

β€œThen little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, β€œLet the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.” Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
