Chicken Soup

For Grandma

By Wen XiaoshengPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

Jujubes bob above the surface

Rust red suns on a liquid horizon

Thin, translucent crowns around mushrooms

Glistening brown caps

Fungal crowns

Fibrous, rotating rays reminiscent

Of an umbrella’s underside

Its handle is a curved, creamy stem

Shiitake Saturns with greasy rings

A galaxy of oil

Ashy skin and fair meat

Pale bones

Suspended in a silver half-moon bowl
