Chasing Fireflies
Chasing Happiness
Starry summer nights
Filled with bright flashes,
That capture youthful eyes.
Barefoot and sun-kissed sprouts,
Spring to action.
Warm wind brushing their cheeks,
As they chase the bright flashes.
Some capture,
Put it in a mason jar
With tiny holes poked through the top.
Some capture it and let it go in the same moment.
Others are unsuccessful.
Barefoot sun-kissed sprouts
Turn into stressed adolescents.
Chasing bright flashes of happiness.
That can disappear in a fleeting moment.
Running with all their might.
Tears in their eyes.
Some capture it.
And try to lock it away,
But they are always disappointed whenever it fades away.
Some capture it,
And bask in its glory
And inhale its beauty
And when it fades away, they accept it.
Others never capture it
They find it pointless,
Pointless to chase after something that will eventually fade away.
We chase happiness like we chased fireflies.
Trying to capture its glory and its beauty
Often times we are disappointed
Because we try to make it everlasting
Instead of enjoying the little bits of happiness found in fleeting moments
The secret to catching happiness
Is to smile in the small flashes of it
Enjoy it while it lasts
And accept it when it leaves
Because it’s the little flashes that make
The biggest difference.
