Chasing Comfort

To experience comfort is to be devoid of pain.

Like the euphoric bliss of a manic episode, it is a contrasting force outside of the mundane.

Comfort is the treasure at the end of the rainbow.

It is a reward that only those who live in fear will ever truly know.

While luxury is no more than a mere mask for boredom,

True comfort stares down the root of man and finds its flight when one escapes what they’re running from.

To preserve what is most dear, we hide under desks, bridges, and bodies alike.

Whether to avoid injustice, punishment, or captivity, we only wish to stay out of sight.

Safety is a feeling most peculiarly, perverse.

You’ll feel it in your blood and your bones, creating but never sating an unquenchable thirst.

For after every chase there exists a sigh of relief!

But you must reach into what is most primal to find it, however brief.

The safety of comfort comes only through pain.

It is to risk the finality of death, only to walk away safely, once again.
