Charm

The music
Of my youth
A soundtrack
On repeat
In every moment
That passes
Memories are
Assigned melody
Breathing syncs
With remembered
Rhythmic beats
Aristotle’s Poetics
Distill art into
Irreducible beauty
Setting aside
Truth and justice
To revel in aesthetics
Questions are
Philosophy’s feast
Urging thrice to
Chew new ideas
Imitation, inspiration
We are little children
Miming others
Until we are
Born again, as
One who thinks
I know I am
Getting old, when
I carry mints and
Tissues, not
Minding the lint
Stuck to its edges
Youthful naiads and satyrs
Frolic in halls
A chorus echoing
I see their longing
To be loved, desired
Unconsciously they
Sing with us actors, a
Dirge, lamenting
What we must
Leave behind
Charm is only found
When boredom reigns
Like patience
On a monument
Smiling yet grieving
Knowing self’s demise
Ruthlessly comes
Call me Cassandra
Warning girls who
Dance with abandon
To select their
Songs wisely
When world’s newness
Leaves them behind
In favour of
Fresh faces
Pop tunes become
Lamentations
Sung by ghosts
Of bright days
Long past
