Certain Death in the American Promise to these Frontiersmen

Haiku for Pioneers' Peril

No hope since the fire.

Great forests devastated

to seas of black trunks.

*

Eagle scours the hills

and hunts the ash of his prey.

His stomach turns black.

*

Wounded wagon train

crawls burnt hillside - red natives

lie in ambuscade.

*

Frontier horizon

burns Manifest Destiny

in dreamscape furnace.
