For all the poems I write

you wouldn’t be able to imagine

how many of them

are not approved

for publishing

:

Sometimes the strangest

stories are censored

:

Not strange by nature

but strange because

it doesn’t make sense to me

:

It doesn’t make sense why

I can publish poems about

graphic sex

and gory violence

but my poems

of spirituality

the path to enlightenment

and the nature of the cosmos

are the ones that are most rejected

:

And if this poem doesn’t get approved

well then that serves my point

:

That when trying to wake up the sleeping

by building a bridge

from the physical world

to the spirit realm

through words

those in control

of the media

will burn the bridges

and isolate their neighbors

in their mental prisons

:

Sex sells

Violence captivates

:

But I suppose

exploring the depths

of what the conscious brain

what the eyes and ears

cannot perceive

is too risque

for eyes and ears

to bear to receive

slam poetry
