Casually At War
The pen is far mightier than the sword, and the voice is much stronger than written words.
what was a simple misunderstanding,
placed us at opposing ends
of such a petty squabble‐
the crows will sing when
one has reached the bottom of their bottle
oh a symphony to dread‐
instead, why don't we
stop this, war of attrition
where killing softly is a mission,
save our breath, and put to death the flesh's demanding for dissension
put an end to a rivalry,
not after a casualty, but before
why are we-
so casually at war?
tell me-
do you remember, what we're fighting for?
why don't we-
set ourselves free?
from what's waging here,
this is not a waiting game
i'd rather have peace, than stand over the pieces of what used to be
here is not the place for placing blame
why don't we-
clear a new understanding
of equal, and mutual standing
why don't we-
clear up the rubble,
clean up the air
and talk about the trouble
to stop this time of wear
only patience that is worn thin can win,
a war of attrition
we don't need to be,
so casually at war
