castaways

Say It Plainly

I left my sadness behind in the city

when you reached out to me,

offering a helping hand -

so different from everyone else

so gentle and selfless.

Heaven took Hell's place

right here.

No darkness allowed,

just you and lovely news.

Mince pies and the best cakes

melting in my mouth.

You embrace me

with warm touches

from your mother's hands.

A dutiful son

always does

as his mother asks,

smiling and brightening

the entire city.

I long to see you

at the waterfront,

where Brayford barges

made history

sailing upstream.

We live now

in an age of distance.

Royalty offers no comfort

and we're lost at sea.

We are castaways,

survivors of endless storms,

torn asunder

each time we try to connect.

It's pointless now.

Our lives meticulously planned

connected in fleeting moments,

then separate for days

until the next time

we're called back together.

I'll be waiting for that sparkle to return

filled with brief joy

of your blue-soaked shirt.

Adieu, but see you soon.
