Candle in Fog
A candle shivered in the fog,
Its light bent around hidden shapes,
I followed the thin trail,
Where the mist swallowed my shoes.
Something watched from the hollow,
Eyes like drowned silver coins,
Every step echoed someone else,
I wanted to run, but could not.
Shadows tangled with my hair,
The world grew small and strange,
I felt hands brush the air,
Cold, familiar, accusing.
A figure moved ahead,
Vanishable as smoke,
I reached for it,
And it vanished again.
The fog swallowed the street,
Even my shadow dissolved,
A faint laughter rolled past,
And the night leaned closer.
I stumbled into silence,
The candle flickered and died,
Its light vanished like memory,
Leaving only the fog to watch.
