Candid Memories

Don't be afraid to take imperfect photographs

Back in the days before this smart phone age

I remember buyin disposable cameras at Walgreens

Say cheese snappin pictures unseen on the last day of school

Capturing those special moments on a birthday

Surrounded by loved ones on graduation day

Then it’s back to the store and pay a fee

So they can process and develop my memories

Finally I get them back and I can reminisce again

Only to find a finger in the lens

Or one too many blurry shots

In those days messed up pictures happened a lot

Nowaday its simple to capture those memories

In an instant you can have it

Saved to your phone

Real quick snap a pic of that over there

Then Flip it around into Selfie mode

Oh look at me on a good day

Or look at us just because

Add a filter just for fun

Lookin like a dog, a baby, or a nun

And it’s ok to make a mistake

Just hit delete and repeat

Until you’ve captured the right one

Post it on social or save it for yourself

Not every moment needs to be shared with the world

But don’t let lack of makeup or feeling fat

Stop you from taking photographs

You don’t have to love it

Just take it for you

Capture those random moments

On a lazy Sunday afternoon

You and mom chillin laid back watching the news

No fancy hair dos or makeup

Just a day in the life

When grandma swears she’s not ready for bed

But you catch her fallin asleep in front of the TV instead

And when the kids were so off the wall

It’s a miracle they’re alive at all

But when they finally settled down on the couch

Eyes glued to see some Disney creativity

Snap a picture just because

When big bro stops bye for a bite

Get that stain on his shirt

From when he spilled sauce

He’s gonna put his hand in the way

And tell you to get away

But snap that pic real quick anyway

“I’ll delete it,” you’ll say

But instead it’s saved under funny memories

Only for your eyes to see

Capture those random candid moments

Don’t let thoughts of “ugliness” stop you

From gettin those memories down

Because as 2020 has taught us

The ones you love won’t always be around
