Why isn’t
There a cure
For cancer
In this timeline
Is it pointless
It feels pointless
Perhaps
We’ll give it
Another go
Another spin
Round this planet
Another year
Growing gray
With age
It’s been a minute
It’s been an hour
It’s been days
Months
Since you’ve been
Gone
It hurts
It’s dull
It sucks
Losing people
You love
Afraid
Of losing
More
Loved ones
It’s a void
That somehow
We crawl out of
Facing days
That feel so short
The clock
Always runing
Full tilt
Like sand
In an hourglass
-A.H.
I lost my Aunt D to cancer this past July. It was hard, and it still is. The grief ebbs and flows. It’s never easy losing a loved one—it is just something we have to get through for the people we love, and for ourselves.
I also posted this poem on my social media (BlueSky, Threads & Facebook).
