Some people casually say that "forgiving others is about forgiving yourself," as if the pain you feel is your responsibility. Is an apology enough to forgive? Can a simple "I didn't mean it" truly undo the damage?

Forgiveness is never an obligation, nor is it cheap tolerance. When someone tramples on you, you don't need to force yourself to forgive them. The person you should forgive most is the part of yourself that you can't forgive. This isn't a weakness; it's a way of protecting yourself.

Don't rush to let go, and don't rush to get better. Take your time to slowly bring your heart back to yourself. As life gets better, you'll find that whether you forgive or not no longer matters.
