Can We Start Again?

Youthful Arrogance

Your heart always beat in the hidden darkness of

Yearning and desire for me

And mine pounded with the raw need of you

And your strong love

Forever trying to fix the brokenness between us

Borne through lifetimes of misconceptions,

Misunderstandings and unintentional deceptions

At one time, our love was youthful and true

But our dreams, wants and needs could not align

In this dimension

No matter how hard we tried

Our naïve childish arrogance would not let us compromise

All or nothing, and we gave up everything for foolish pride

And the myth of immortality

We counted on time, and time ran out

The middle ground was where our strength was

But we could not find any balance in the terra firma of our truth

So we quit, walked away, damaged our love forever

Stormed off in different directions

Yet always looking over our shoulders

For each other

Doomed to keep repeating the impatient patterns of

Our deep-rooted immaturity

Baby, can we start again?

I wonder…
