Campfire Tales

What was the best of camping? It was sitting around the campfire and letting people expose their imagination to a willing crowd.

When the fire

was at its brightest,

and when night at its darkest,

in the coldness of the desert,

we gathered around

to hear a story told.

We sat spellbound

as we heard

tales of horror

tales of humor

Tand harrowing adventures.

We laughed or screamed out loud

in the cold desert night

and pondered those themes

told by a storyteller

as the fire crackled

and snapped onward through

the star studded night.

It didn't matter how dark it got.

It didn't matter how cold it got.

We had the fire.

We had the stories.

Even the cold silence of the desert

Couldn't contain our imaginations

we took turns telling.

The fire burning bright

within us

as we sat around

the campfire

enjoying every minute.
