Camera Lights Smile

The camera never lies or does it ?

Camera Lights Smile

Camera, lights, smile,
Hold that pose and stay awhile,
The flash goes off, the moment’s caught,
A perfect picture, or so we thought.

Camera, lights, smile again,
Hide the sadness, hide the pain,
Lift your chin and look alive,
Make the world believe you’re doing fine.

The photographer watched them pose,
Wondering what nobody knows,
A smile can hide a thousand things,
A photograph can hide broken wings.

The lights were bright, the room was full,
Everyone looked beautiful,
They laughed and joked and played their part,
While hiding what was in the heart.

Camera, lights, smile once more,
Give them the person they came for,
Don’t let the sadness reach your eyes,
Don’t let them see behind the disguise.

He took the pictures one by one,
Underneath the studio sun,
But every face began to tell,
A story that the flash couldn’t spell.

Some looked happy, some looked proud,
Some performed for all the crowd,
But he could see beneath the pose,
The little truths nobody shows.

Then someone smiled and looked away,
And suddenly he stopped that day,
Because behind that fleeting grin,
He saw the person hiding in.

Camera, lights, smile, they say,
But nobody knows what lies away,
For sometimes the brightest smile we wear,
Is simply hiding what is there.
