Cage Made of Flesh

How?

By Mercedes ChavezPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

It hurts...

To smile in the face of the ones I love

Knowing every part of me is shattering inside

Laughing because it's the only thing that keeps me from breaking down

Only crying when I'm in the shower, so no one will see

Staying silent, so those around me don't worry

But I'm screaming on the inside

Begging, pleading, needing someone to see past the charade

Because I am screaming

Clawing at the cage that is my own flesh

It's a battle I feel I have already lost

I can't escape myself

Or the demons that lurk closely

Why?

Or should I ask, how?

How do they make hurting me look so easy?

How much more can a heart of gold take?

How much longer before I completely break?
