Caffeine Is The Adult Version of Fairy Dust

Before the world begins to stir,
Before the dawn has found its light,
I wrap my hands around my mug
And greet the silence of the night.

No wand appears, no spell is cast,
No fairy circles dance the floor.
Just gentle steam that curls like dreams,
And somehow I can breathe once more.

Coffee has never claimed to heal
The aches that linger deep inside.
Yet somehow every warming sip
Makes heavy thoughts a little light.

It cannot mend a broken heart
Or rewrite pages life has penned.
But it sits beside me faithfully,
Like an old and trusted friend.

Its magic isn’t loud or grand,
It asks for neither praise nor fame.
It quietly reminds my soul
Tomorrow doesn’t look the same.

I’ve cried into a morning cup,
I’ve laughed until the coffee spilled.
I’ve watched the seasons come and go,
While empty mugs were slowly filled.

I’ve solved no great and mighty quest,
Nor conquered every mountain high.
But coffee whispered, “One more step,”
Each time I thought I couldn’t try.

Perhaps that’s why we love it so,
Not for the caffeine rushing through.
But for the peaceful pause it brings
Before the day asks things of you.

So here’s to mugs both chipped and new,
To every kettle’s faithful song.
To conversations, quiet thoughts,
Where weary hearts have all belonged.

Call it habit if you wish.
Call it comfort, warmth or trust.
I’ll simply smile and raise my cup—
The adult version of fairy dust.
