Buzzed (A Memory of a Girl)

Another 90s poem. Heartbreak and alcohol make strange bedfellows.

I.

Pink Floyd screams in my ears

as the four walls close in

to hide the streaming tears.

and rusts my shield of tin.

II.

I down a Coors

then a Bud

While my mind soars

above the sud.

III.

Then it's some Wild Turkey.

or some gin.

Maybe it's whiskey

Or a little sin.

IV.

I'm all alone again.

Trapped here.

My head does a spin

and my eyes form a tear.

V.

How can I fill

that empty place

when she takes the thrill

with her arsenic and lace.

VI.

A six pack will do.

rather than memories of her.

Keystone lights give me a clue.

Show me the cure.

VII.

Liquid Gods can you help me?

Let me forget

as I grow cold in this lonely sea.

That's become a threat?

VIII.

Speak no more Mr. Floyd

I hear you loud and clear.

I can't avoid that void.

as memories of her won't clear.
