But It's My Life
Internal Confessions

But It’s My Life
As if it were just yesterday like vapors and low-lying clouds,
Appeared scenes within me cloaked under shrouds.
These are the images I dare to speak of, even proclaim,
These specters, ghosts, and hooded premonitions would utter the same.
Through times of discontent and unbearable fear,
Not knowing who I was through so many tears.
Yet within me, my colors were bright shiny and new,
But how to share them, to show them, I hadn’t a clue.
Small towns and smaller minds often chimed in,
For me to forget the calling, the voices within.
Yet the voices that kept speaking deep down inside,
Continued to convey secret notions making me sigh.
To reach the point of understanding and a new vision,
I would have to dig deeper and require an admission.
Philosophy and emotions delivered an altered conclusion,
That waged war with my flesh and spiritual illusions.
I’ve walked many pathways since my journey did start,
Some were of great pleasure, some tore me apart.
In those times when no love could be found,
My heart, my soul, my body lay upon the ground.
In muddy puddles my spirit emptied out,
Coursing with blood and water, even spirit no doubt.
In those shallow puddles surrounded by grief,
I listened to my own mind speaking relief.
Gone are the people’s attitudes that drove me insane,
Telling me what I should do, how to speak as if in a game.
The truth is that they weren’t traveling with me,
And their opinions meant nothing, understanding became my key.
