Busy Busy Busy
A poem about making time for the important things in life
Everyone is so busy
Adults work 9 to 5
to 6, to 7
Sometimes even to 11
just so they don't have to come home
and deal with their problems.
Parents smother emotion out of their children,
too occupied to listen
young minds soon believe they aren't allowed to cry.
Smile and wave before the curtain drops
Aren't families the best show?
Straighten up little Johnny,
forget how your dad's hands wandered last night.
Fix your dress little Susie,
the makeup covering the scars on your arms is showing.
Smile for the camera~!
In an age where parents hit first and ask questions later,
you aren't so abnormal.
Just pretend everything's o.k.,
why confront your issues and become a better person,
when you can let the current drag you into eternal numbness?
We pass around emotional scars like we are passing the cup of communion,
So eager to share a bowl full of lies.
Everyone is welcome!
(except athiests, gays, pro-choicers, liberals, wiccans, trannies, or anyone else we don't agree with)
But everyone is welcome!
Don't worry!
actions don't have consequences
except when they do
but you're special!
It won't happen to you!
Everyone wants to talk
and nobody wants to listen.
They don't realize
you have to listen
to be heard.
But to most,
empathy is just an empty word.
We are a generation of bullies
most lack even the most elementary vocabulary to describe things that are different,
or things they don't like
a vocabulary restricted to
"retarded" "faggot" "gay" "nigger" and "no homo"
And if they happen to be called out,
it's the funniest reply
either "I have nothing against those people"
or
"I have friends like that, so it's o.k."
Excuse me?
If you cared the least bit about the people mentioned,
you wouldn't use words that contributed to segregation.
But you won't take the time to change it
too busy
Hilarious how I've easily avoided saying those idiotic phrases, but you are
too busy
One word can push someone over the edge
too busy
it doesn't matter how you mean it
too busy
little Johnny hung himself last night
too busy
little Susie came back to school with a gun
too busy
t o o b u s y
T O O B U S Y
S T O P .
One minute could make someone smile
One hour could save someone's life
One day could make dreams come true
the only question left to ask, is...
are you too busy?
