To bury the hatchet

we must first dig

Unearth the things

that have been forgotten

left for dead

infested with worms

We must turn the soil

that has settled

That has been stepped on

walked over

and taken for granted

To bury the hatchet

we must first take hold of the hatchet

Feel the cold steel

Look at it's sharpness

Sever the ties of the past

Then let it go

Let it drop

down the hole

Into the space created

to put the pain to rest

Then use the same soil

to bury the weapon

Reorganize the grains

Use our tools of the present

to transmute the past

Take the spade of today

to plant flowers of forgiveness

upon the grave of yesterday
