Burnt Into The Light Of Day
Coping Mechanism

Some of my dreams
Should never see the light of day
But this one’s burned in
It just won’t go away
———
To vent means to air it out
Maybe give me a bit of peace
So hopefully with this
The tension gets to release
———
It starts hiding in my closet
A little girl, maybe seven years old
I’m punishing myself
Cause I never do what I’m told
———
It’s the only comfort I can find
When my mind floats to the darkness
I become nothing
An abyss
———
To spare you the details
Shall save you some tears
That little girl stayed silent
For far too many years
———
Until it became a burden too heavy
She had to unload the weight
But when she pulled the trigger
The universe showed that wasn’t her fate
———
She would grow
And she would shrink
For many more years
All she would do is think
———
With time she learned
It wasn’t reckless to hope
Somehow, being vulnerable
Became her way to cope
———
