Burning Out

Burning the Candle at Both Ends

You light the candle at both ends

Eventually it will burn you

The rapidly dripping wax will scorch your hand

But you keep holding on

Because someone told you

You have to, you have to, we all have to

We all have to keep holding on to our candlesticks

To guide us through this endless night

Down the winding path in the distance

Where maybe someday there might be another light

To take us to our destination

And you can finally let go—

But will it be before you are set aflame?
