burning bridges

I started

with burning my bridges

not that I was rich

with bridges

in the first place.

With an unease

a heart squeeze

this fire hurts

it blazes

it flames

incinerates

to nothing.

Not just my pathways

but my connections

the directions and

the loves.

I'll ignite my hate

expose it with a torch

even if it's really

just love in disguise

singed and twisted

afraid

to break.

My phobia for the bridge

promises right doing

while everyone

backs away,

their hearts turned

to ash by my

light.

It is here

that I burn

every last passion

every last association

connection

direction.

Put a match to my

hobbies

my sunlight

my twinkling

until there is

nothing left

but coal.

Is this

what

sadness

feels like?

I'll disappear

into these flames,

replace

everything I've ever felt

with hate.

Protect my emotions by

shielding them

with this fire.

Disappear into

this warmth

that burns

but comforts.

I wonder

if they'll remember

anything

other than the scorch

of this blaze.

A/N:

This was a little bit of a darker piece. I wanted to make a connection between mental health struggles and the concept of disappearing. And ironically, shed some light on these kind of fires that are often tempting to set in depressive states, even if it means destroying yourself.

If you found some sort of connection to this, or could relate to it in some way, may you find some peace and healing ♥
