Buried Shame

A poem

They wanted me to feel constantly humiliated

Any reason served the purpose

Growing up, sibling rivalry

Before I could even grasp what it was all about

They left me no choice

I barely survived in that narcissistic hell

After all the years that have passed

Nothing of my life remains

Everything that mattered is gone

Home became merely a building to fight over

Justice misunderstood

What does it matter

When everyone and everything else was just like that

Feelings projected onto others, redirected, avoided, repressed

Where does true strength lie?

Monsters born of their fragile egos

Protected like eggshells, handled with excessive caution

After all these years, nothing remains

Only shame

The shame they tried to foist upon me

Lacking a true target, ricocheting back
