Bump in the Night

What goes bump and shrieks in the night?

With plodding and dragging footsteps near my door, filling me with shivering fright.

What's making my dogs in the other room howl, is it just the moon

Or something that would make the faint of heart swoon?

Is it some lumbering creature covered with the stench of the grave?

Or a tormented banshee screaming about a life that cannot be saved?

All I know is that the footsteps are closer than before.

Surely some shape shrouded in the mists from the moor.

Answers to my questions I needed to know.

Until I noticed the glowing red eyes peering through my window...
