In a rare and magical moment,
I have both the social stamina
and paralyzing dental health anxiety
to solve this problem now
instead of putting it off.
Instead of waiting for the calm time,
there in the distance.
The one where I’m really on my feet.
Just over the horizon;
always soon, always postponed.
The nowhere I banish goals
still too far out of reach.
Not all of them, though. Not this.
I center myself,
muster my conversational spontaneity,
And dial my dentist.
