brown

the culture i came from was the heritage that i held

the daal and the saabsi the peace and the prosperity

the eyes that held the stories of a hundred years and the oppressors greatest fears

the henna on my hands and the tikkas on my head

my bilingual tongue and my mothers 80s songs

but most importantly brown is home brown is familiarity brown is known brown is the city that can never compare to the pahelis. and the wisdom of your nanis and dadis

brown is not your brain but your heart your voice and your art

surreal poetry
