Brown Stripes

By Shekhinah Gaddis

By Shekhinah Gaddis Published 5 years ago 1 min read

Cracks, crevices and crooked lines running through my body

I call them tiger stripes

They flow like rivers connecting to canals and lakes

Freely forming from my thighs up to my waist

Marks on my body tell stories of my past

They tell stories of how much a fighter I am

They tell stories of how resilient I am

The marks left me distressed

So weary I was too discouraged to show my goddess

Cause melanin ain’t cute when it’s marked up

But these marks are my stripes of pride

And melanin heals and reveals power

My brown body is made up of a big brown nose, kinky black strands and thick curvaceous loins

That you may not like

But that’s alright, causes she’s also made up of might

My brown body is made up of a vast bust, long limbs and a bulging fupa

And that might be too excessive for you

But I’m enough, cause I’m also made of love

Love that’s full of color and that sees passed it

Knowing I’m beyond it
