Brother Can You Spare A Meal For My Children
Reduced to beg to feed my family

Brother Can You Spare A Meal For My Children
Brother can you spare a meal today,
Life has worn our strength away,
The cupboards stand nearly bare,
Heavy worries fill the air.
My children ask what we will eat,
Looking up from tired feet,
I search the shelves from end to end,
Hoping help might soon descend.
Work has been hard to find these days,
Bills keep coming in endless ways,
Every penny quickly gone,
Still we somehow carry on.
Pride can be a stubborn thing,
Making silence tightly cling,
Yet hunger speaks far louder still,
Breaking down the strongest will.
A loaf of bread would mean so much,
A caring word, a gentle touch,
Simple kindness freely shown,
Can help a family not alone.
Many people struggle too,
Facing troubles they fight through,
Some hide pain behind a smile,
Walking many weary miles.
Brother if you have a spare,
Know your kindness will be there,
Not forgotten with the years,
Nor washed away by passing tears.
When better days come back around,
And steadier footing can be found,
I’ll help another in their need,
Passing on a caring deed.
