Broken Glass

A poem

A bad son

Using gifts as

Rare apologies

And mediocre accolades as

Excuses

For past actions.

-

Just a small sample

Of my many

Late night thoughts.

-

Consumed by guilt

But not attuned to guilt

Looking with shame

Upon all that my hands built.

-

Merely sand castles,

Soon to be

Swept

Away.

-

We are

Connected constantly,

But emotions are kept private.

-

Blue flashing lights

Are used as distractions,

‘Til

In these rooms, alone,

I open up repressed reactions.

-

I always acted properly -

Emotions ever buried

Despite their violent currents,

Keeping things civil

As my secrets were uncovered.

-

Worn out hands

Exchange new plans

And I pray that they can carry me

To safety.

-

I only need a minute

There.

-

I promise, I won’t be noticed — no — I

Only need a minute

To breathe.

-

Glitching voices

Ruin cover from

The rain of the past.

-

I look to my reflection,

All I see

Is broken glass.
