Bring My Hunting Coat, Mary

Bring my hunting coat, Mary, the wind is turning,

and I feel the cold rising across the fields,

where memories stand like distant markers,

waiting for me to call them home again.

Lay it across my shoulders with gentle care,

for the journey ahead is longer than it looks,

and the land remembers every footstep,

echoing stories we once shared.

I walk with the strength of older days,

guided by the voice I still hear in the quiet,

and when the night settles upon the hills,

your name will carry me safely through.

Let the coat rest heavy with the warmth you left,

a comfort against the gathering dusk,

and I will move with the courage you taught me,

as the fields stretch out before my feet.

When I return with tired but grateful steps,

I will hang the coat where it once belonged,

and whisper your name with steady affection,

knowing you walked each mile beside me.
