Bright berry

Berry bright bright bri-ight briii-ight... er... sorry... wrong fruit

By Raymond G TaylorPublished about a month ago 1 min read

Bright berry ripe and ready

Shiny black you make me cheery

Hedgerow fruit autumnal bounty

Nature’s harvest growth a plenty

Fall's sweet nectar

Juice refresh

Ever early summer blessed

Through warming days

Ripening rays

We pluck you from your gangling limbs

Fruity goodness always wins

Your tangy sweetness ever tempts

Lush ripe flesh as heaven sent

You always cheer me

Harvest time

Will always be a friend of mine

So if by grace you offer me

Your wondrous colours for to see

And generous with your fair fruit be

I'll pluck the ripest biggest loot

And keep them all for me

This has to be the worst bit of rhyming rhythm I have so far come up with but, hell, I have spent quite a few days not getting anywhere, so want to complete the thing and be done with it. Consider it a work in progress... and please feel free to pan, provide constructive criticism, or comment in any way you see fit.

I any case, the point of this is to express my delight at plucking the first few blackberries from the brambles a couple of weeks ago. Consumed on the spot, of course. They seem to come earlier each year. If this is global warming, throw a big lump of coal on the fire.
