Brian’s Star

Blue to Gold

By Leah Christian Freeman ReedPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

Brian's Star

He left in August of '05

He was so excited; He was so alive

He was confident and even bold

When he told me his blue star

Wouldn't change to gold

I was scared to leave him alone

I cried and cried the whole drive home

He left and flew over the sea

The first thing he did was contact me

To tell me "see, I told you so"

because his blue star

Hadn't changed to gold

We spoke almost every day

He made it seem like he wasn't away

But at night I'd get scared and cold

While I prayed for his blue star

To never change to gold

That November night I heard the bell

It turned into a living hell

They told me he'd be coming back

Far too early from Iraq

That's the night that I was told

That his blue star

had changed to gold

He left for Heaven

He'd never grow old

Because his blue star

Was now gold
