Break Down the Walls
Dark, trapped, desperate and defiant
These walls are built of silent screams,
Of broken hopes and murdered dreams,
The ceiling hangs above my head,
Like all the words I never said.
No windows here, no breath of air,
Just shadows crawling everywhere,
The floor remembers every fall,
My fingerprints upon the wall.
I've scratched my name into the stone,
To prove I wasn't always alone,
But even echoes turn away,
And leave me here another day.
The darkness wears a familiar face,
It knows my fears, it knows this place,
It feeds upon the things I hide,
And builds another wall inside.
But somewhere deep beneath my skin,
A restless storm is gathering,
A thousand cracks begin to crawl,
Like lightning through this prison wall.
I'll tear the darkness from its throne,
I'll break these walls with flesh and bone,
And if I bleed beneath the sky,
At least I'll know I dared to try.
For even shattered souls can rise,
And drag the daylight through their eyes,
No prison built from fear can stay,
When something trapped begins to break away.
