Borrowed Shine

nowhere to go

Beneath the satin's smooth embrace, a heart beats caged and slow,

A masquerade of sequins hides the tears the mirror won't know.

Hair adorned with borrowed shine, a smile painted on thin air,

Aching heels on empty floors, a silent, whispered prayer.

Diamonds glitter, catching light, on a dress that yearns to dance,

But the music's died, the stage is bare, a chance forever lost by chance.

Anticipation's perfume fades, replaced by stale regret,

A lone figure in the hall, a silhouette no one will fret.

The clock ticks on, a mocking friend, with laughter echoing past,

Memories of waltzes swirl, a love that couldn't last.

Fading echoes of champagne, laughter's ghost upon the breeze,

Aching beauty, hollow shell, yearning for the life it appease.

But wait, a spark within ignites, a flicker in the gloom,

A whispered strength, a quiet rise, defiance blooms.

The dress unwinds, the mask comes off, revealing truths untold,

No need for borrowed light, a beauty waiting to unfold.

For sometimes, when there's nowhere left to go, the journey starts anew,

Shedding expectations' weight, embracing skies of endless blue.

The heart beneath the satin beats, a rhythm strong and free,

All dressed up, yes, but now for what she wants to be.

So let the glitter fall like rain, the dress hang on the door,

The true magic isn't found in crowds, but in the self she'll explore.

For even when the party's done, and shadows paint the night,

There's a universe within, a star waiting to ignite.
