you always know when to come back.

not to have coffee or chat but to

interrupt a streak of good vibes with a

random interruption on any given day.

i failed to see you coming this time, armed

with vivid ammunition, aimed at accosting

my brain until i'm stirred to the point of

being broken...

you never waste time playing clips in my

head like a suspenseful trailer set on repeat.

i stare at the clock like it has something to add—

but really, i'm stuck like a bug to flypaper

sifting through events that led to your creation.

now, you're free to roam inside my world,

waiting for opportunities to be known again.

and again.

and again...

i wish i knew how to bury you in a time

capsule and forget the location. instead,

i remember you often.

the day, the loud BANG, the airbags, the confusion, the fear, the hospital, the stitches, the headaches...

i survived to see more days. i'm grateful for that.

but you won't let it go... there may never be

closure where your impact loses its sting.

all I want is to file you away with others in a

cloud of forgotten memories.

-wishing isn't powerful enough to do that-

how can something so far in the past

still hold weight in the future? I don't

know the answer, but every time we're

done haunting me, i fling you back

into orbit, hoping you don't return.

but you do... you always will. i see that now...

and i never did get that ice cream i went out

late one evening for. vanilla used to be my favorite...
