Book Burning

The Flame of the Ignorant

Small minds stare into flames

with dullard expression

burning what knowledge

could release them

The drifting embers of

profound writing going out

like the flicker of light

in their ever dead eyes

This ash was a confession

and this piece was a memory

words once painstakingly assembled

now charred brain cells dying

And when the bonfire dies down

and there are no more books to burn

they are left standing there

drooling in their own darkness
