Bonfire

Free Verse

Itchy skin

Ready to peel

Sloughing off

Gentrified layers

Binding a

Wild creature

No more

If sublime is

Holding tension

Finding pleasure in

Displeasure, its

Agitation frustrates

My nerves, searching

For relief from

Irrational, erratic

Desires; free this

Animal into

Forest to commune

With other sprites

Manifesting spirits

She builds a

Roaring bonfire

Strips naked; no one

Present to judge

As she dances

‘Round licking flames

Clawing stars from

Sky; pressing

Cheek to moss, inhaling

Clear dew perfume

Arching, writhing

Scathing movement

Demanding to be

One with nature

Questioning no more

Reason and rhyme

Let her sate herself

On ice clinging to

Poison berries

Subsuming danger

To feel alive

Would that I

Could save her

From captivity

Find me a knife

Separate us

For good; a

Kindness

Leave wild things

To live as

They should
