Blue Ego

A poem

He traded the truth for his own ego,

Forgetting the fundamental values

That had shaped his conduct.

He planned a future for the two of us,

Even though planning was what we should have avoided,

Given our past, composed of shards of pale blue.

He imposed a single point of view on us

Regarding how to think within a relationship.

I often wondered how he could live with that -

Moving forward without looking back,

Which served his own well-being,

But what about mine?

Unable to look at any man,

Seeing reason where the heart ought to be,

I traded love for writing, even if it wasn't love.

Whatever it was, it wasn't worth a penny of my words -

Arranged, ordered, ready to leave the page and soar

To join the world's greatest,

Because everyone needs to know the real truth,

And not just that blue shadow trailing behind us, reeking.
