Life has been comfort
In the decaying twilight,
A guilty comfort,
Hidden in the dim
Corners of an empty room.
Give in, give in,
To the fruits of ash.
And oh how tasty
The ashen apple seems
To a muted belly.
The bleak, grey-covered
Dawn gave me the strength
To act meek, to cower
Embrace the frozen shadow
Running in porous veins.
Until a sight caught me.
The fleeing sun was
Caught in the cracks
Of an aging tree
A dying glow of
Amber and chestnuts.
I reached out cautiously,
Taking it in my
Trembling palms
Humbled by the sight
A sliver of sunlight.
When reason takes
It’s prescribed pilgrimage
And twilight seeps in again
And cold, dull whispers
Slither in the mind
I smile and shine
My glowing heart,
To share my sunlight
With the coming dark.
